ANOTHER LIFE DIED

A George Floyd poem.

Watch ANOTHER LIFE DIED on YouTube

Another life died and I am not surprised

By the way, this is not the first time

Yes pray for resolution in your lifetime, but

Expect a recurrence of this same crime

Another life died because he pinned him down

He couldn’t lynch him so he just kneeled on his crown

Yes he knows he didn’t have any air

He says, “Jimmy cracked corn and he didn’t care”

Another life died by the hand of a protector

Play the scratch card and reveal a murderer

Drive down the road for protests of fire

Pour patience down the drain. It has expired.

Another life died and I am not surprised

By the way, this is not the tenth time

Yes pray for resolution in your lifetime, but

Expect a recurrence of this same crime

Another life died and shock hits their faces

As if they didn’t know the world is racist

And half of the media is pretend woke

Others use the pain for jokes: facetious

Another life died they type “all cops are bastards”

As is they’ve solved the mess with simpleton answers

And people sell wristbands with blue lives matter

Obviously. They don’t go to jail for killing N-

Another life died and I am not surprised

By the way this is not the hundredth time

Yes pray for resolution in your lifetime, but

Expect a recurrence of this same crime

Another life died and people pretend to cry

Use the situation like they won a grand prize

Loot the local store. No care for their demise

Because free is way better than $9.99

Another life died and they’re impatient for justice

Many are eager to remove due process

Someone says they should find where he lives

Someone beside them nods, “say less”

Another life died and I am not surprised

By the way this is not the thousandth time

Yes pray for resolution in your lifetime, but

Expect a recurrence of this same crime

Another life died and mothers shed a tear

This was already not a good year

Filled with lost souls and growing fear

Something they hold dear just disappeared

Another life died and it morphs into a hinge

A mighty group of pacifists on the fringe

The fire of the night makes the gas look orange

And they help the fallen with milk from their fridge

Another life died and frankly this rhyme,

This rhyme feels like a complete waste of my time

Because we’ve been going through this for so long

And I wish I was indifferent but emotions are not wrong

And I really want to swear, and the n word was in here somewhere

But I couldn’t say it because the censors will hear

And this is important for someone out there

But you know what’s important?

Life

So I, have to ignore clips, on the internet,

or I’ll cry, but I can’t zip, my chapped lips,

‘cuz the rhymes come so quick

‘cuz I can’t forget about Minneapolis,

and I’m tired and frustrated

and it’s 4:59 on the morning of May 30th

What if when I wake up…

Another life died.
